rent
was born in 1967. He has been around Drag Racing since before he could
walk, and this 1967 Nova in particular, since he was about seven or
eight years old.
During Drag Racing Season at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado,
Saturdays were spent with his father racing, his cousin racing and his
uncle racing. The three of them would park together.
This 67 Nova was first called Tas, and then Tas II. By the time Brent was
15, he started racing Tas himself in the "High School Days"
series each summer at Bandimere Speedway. The High School kids got to
race three Saturdays during the summer. At the end of those three
meets the driver with the most points was champion for that summer.
Hot Rod Magazine did a feature on High School Days at Bandimere one
summer and Tas's picture appeared in that issue.
I think that Brent raced almost every car or truck that he ever owned
at one time or another besides entering them in car shows. He has a
respectable collection of jackets, trophies and plaques. The best
prizes were "cash prizes" of course because you could always
put that money back into your car!
In the early part of the 1990's Brent's dad gave Tas to him. He has
raced the Nova whenever possible. It has been raced hard, and for many
years. Two years ago it was decided that the Nova needed a major face
lift.
THE IMPORTANT NEW PARTS:
30 Over Small Block 350
Dart Heads
Roller Cam
950 EFM
Holley Carburetor
Dominator Intac
Power Glide Trans Brake
New chassis, roll cage, rear suspension, new wiring, and rewiring.
It also has new rims and many other parts replaced
with new ones. The only thing left to be done is the new paint job. Of
course when the only thing left to do is the paint that means it is ready to take it to the track for a few easy runs to make sure everything
runs properly and do some fine tuning.
He took it to Red
Line Raceway near Nevada, Texas, a couple of weeks ago and it came
back in one piece after a couple of easy runs. It did a 6.83 in 1/8th
mile. Red Line is a 1/8 mile track that just opened last year and is
only a few minutes from home.
Hopefully it will be painted and ready for "Super Chevy"
next year!
The first three pictures in the flash movie above were taken this last
September, 2002. The other two sections of the flash movie were taken
last year. There will be more pictures when it is painted and more
news of how the racing is going.
